How to Withdraw a Protest

No matter how diligent property owners and tax consultants may be in reviewing and analyzing property values and deciding whether to file a value protest, there seem to always be some protests filed that the owner or consultant decide not to pursue. Such protests can be withdrawn.

However, unknown errors or unexpected circumstances might be discovered or occur in the future that would necessitate a later protest or correction motion. Therefore, in withdrawing a protest, it is important to take steps to be certain that future correction remedies remain viable.

No news is good news?

The Texas Legislature adjourned the May special session called by the Governor without passing any new laws relating to property tax. The special session was called in an effort to "solve" school financing issues, and many of the proposals would have impacted property tax law. Though no solution was reached, at least no new or amended laws were put in place that property owners and tax consultants have to worry about.

However, another special session might be called by the Governor. And, if not, school finance will undoubtedly be a major topic during the 2005 regular legislative session.
