PROPERTY TAX TIP

Additional Approved Forms Available

GPD has obtained copies additional rendition forms that have been approved for use in 2004 by the Texas Comptroller. Previously, GPD made available 50 forms approve through January. An additional 11 forms were approved for use in February.

Quick Reference Summary of Tax Law Changes

Because the Comptroller's Office seems notoriously slow in printing and distributing new Tax Code books reflecting the most recent amendments to the property tax statutes, GPD has prepared a quick reference summary of the major changes. This summary is available on GPD's Property Tax website in PDF format, and specifically sized so that the pages can be clipped and placed in the back of the Comptroller's published Tax Code for easy reference.

Upcoming deadlines

April 15
Deadline to file business personal property rendition forms

April 30
Deadline to file exemption and special valuation (such as agricultural) applications

May 31
Deadline to file protest of appraised value

Important Note
Because May 31 is a legal holiday (Memorial Day) in 2004, the protest deadline above is pushed to June 1, but only if the protest is filed in person at the appraisal district office. The deadline for mailing a protest is May 29.
